The second of the servant songs in Isaiah focusses on the calling of the servant and Martin Poole pointed out three aspects to this which also apply to us:
- We are all made and called to be God’s children. He knows us before we’re born and speaks our name when we’re in our mother’s womb and our fulfilment is in him.
- The gospel message which we are called to proclaim is both incisive and to the point but also opaque and hard to fully comprehend.
- God still calls us despite our failings, and sometimes because of them.
